FEEDBACK ON ORAL PRODUCTION FROM LAST NIGHT´S CLASS

What´s the difference between error and mistake?

A mistake is usually accidental, you know it is wrong.

An error is usually made due to lack of knowledge.


Pronunciation:

Past forms of regular verbs (-ed): started, lived

/sleep/   /slept/

/busy/


Vocabulary:

reunion(es):      reunions / gatherings / small party

criando un niño:  raising a child


Grammar: The mistakes made are in three areas:

1. Use of the correct tense.

I start learning English

I born in ...

I  lived in ... for ... years...

We are going to ... this weekend.


2. Omission of elements (verb endings, prepositions, etc.)

We want stay in ...

He listens me all time.

He lives in U.S.


3. Interference from Spanish

Exercise

SPEAKING: REPORTING SOMETHING SEEN USING THE PRESENT

Please watch the following video, Alma. Watch it once to get the general story. Then, watch it again to be able to determine the beginning, the middle and the end. You may take notes by forwarding and rewinding the video.

Tasks: 

1. Practice describing orally what happens to Alma. Be aware of your fluency, pronunciation, accuracy in the use of vocabulary, accuracy in the use of grammar.

Some vocabulary that may be useful

1. Check your notes where you report what happens in the story.  

     a. Are all verbs in the present tense?      

     b. Are all verbs the specific verbs to describe the action?        

     c. Check the connectors used: 


d. Do you have a clear beginning, a middle section, and an end?

 
e. Make sure you don´t include opinions, just the facts you observed.  

f. How many sentences did you write?

2. Practice saying your report of the story. Listen to yourself; be aware of your pronunciation, vocabulary or grammar. If something doesn´t sound correct, go back to your notes and fix it. Keep practicing.

                 

WRITING ASSIGNMENT 1: Writing a Personal Profile (Due Tuesday, October 5th, 12:00 midnight)

TASK: WRITING A PERSONAL PROFILE 

Your task is writing a Personal Profile. This Profile should include personal and professional information. Please include:

Personal Qualities (self-motivated, creative, adaptive, having an eye for detail, etc.)

Skills (management skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, etc.)

Experience (studies, 5 years experience in..., extensive bacground in..., previous work experience in...

Relevant Personal Information (hobbies, family (short), etc.)

Keep it short and concise. 

Length: Half a page, no more than one page.

You may include a picture.

Do not include elements that make revisions difficult.
