REMINDER:
Writing Assignment 1: Writing a Personal Profile is due next Tuesday, October 5th, at 12 midnight.
Your task is to write a description of yourself, personal and professional. You may include: personal information and Professional qualities, skills, experience, etc.
The Profile should not be longer that one page, double space; you may include a photo. Any other decoration or pages should not be included.
Evaluation Criteria:
Content: 30%, Organization: 10%, Vocabulary: 25%, Grammar: 25%, Punctuation and capitalization: 10%

1. What is Proficiency?
Language proficiency is the ability to use language in real world situations during spontaneous interactions or in a non-rehearsed context in a way that is appropriate and acceptable for native speakers of the language.
2. Measuring Language Proficiency
There are several ways to measure proficiency, such as
*the ACTFL´s Assessment of Performance Toward Proficiency in Languages. This system measures four differents skills (speaking, reading, writing, listening comprehension). They have the following levels of proficiency:
Novice, intermediate, advanced, superior, distinguished
* Other systems divide proficiency in these levels:
Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced, Superior, Distinguished
* The TOEFL is another standardized test used to measure the proficiency of an English speaker. In addition, this test measures the candidate´s abilities to undertake university studies (reading sills at college level, academic writing, listening and understanding professors lectures in university, etc.)
It measures proficiency from 1 - 30 (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
* There is also the COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES, that is widely used in Europe.

GRAMMAR: Asking and answering questions about train and plane schedules
1. Reading timetables, understanding information from your train ticket, asking questions about flights and trains.
2. Reading and understanding information from your plane ticket, and asking questions about flights.
1. Read the flight information in the ticket above.
2. Write three yes no questions.
3. Write three wh-questions.
4. Revise your questions for vocabulary and grammar accuracy.
5. Practice saying your questions to yourself.
